Khanna and Singham: The two pets in Karunanidhi’s life
Chennai, Aug 8: During his lifetime, Karunanidhi met with several visitors, dignitaries and VVIPs at his Gopalpuram residence. However there was one member in the family, who enjoyed a VVIP status that none could question.

A Lhasa also, type dog, Khanna would always be seen sitting besides, the late leader. The bond between Karunanidhi and Khanna was extremely strong. He would run to the gate, which meant that Karunanidhi had returned home. Even when the leader left home, he would accompany him to the gate.
Khanna became a big part of Karunanidhi's life and had even accompanied him to Kodaikanal, when he had gone on a long writing assignment. Apart from Khanna, the leader also had several other pets.
He had Dachshunds and a pug named Singham. Even when he would go on his walks, a street dog had befriended him. He had grown so fond of the street dog that once at a public function he had said that he could not go for a walk without him.
