Senior BRS Leader Keshav Rao Eyes Return to Congress in Political Realign
In a significant political development from Hyderabad, senior BRS leader and Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao has expressed his contemplation about rejoining the Congress party. Rao, who previously held the position of state Congress president in undivided Andhra Pradesh, revealed his considerations on Thursday, hinting at a possible shift back to his former party. This move comes after his transition to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), formerly known as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), in 2013.

Adding to the political dynamics, sources indicate that Keshav Rao's daughter, Vijaya Laxmi R Gadwal, currently serving as the Mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), is also likely to join the Congress by March 30. However, Keshav Rao's son, K Viplav Kumar, has distanced himself from these developments. In a statement, he affirmed his allegiance to the BRS and praised the leadership of K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), dismissing any speculation about his own political realignment.
The backdrop to these potential party switches is the recent electoral performance of the BRS. The party, led by former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, faced setbacks in the 2023 Assembly polls, leading to a wave of defections. Notably, BRS MLA Danam Nagender has already joined the Congress, while two party MPs, B B Patil and P Ramulu, have switched their allegiance to the BJP.
This series of political shifts underscores a period of reevaluation among BRS leaders and members following their electoral defeat. With key figures like Keshav Rao and Vijaya Laxmi contemplating a return to the Congress, the political landscape in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh continues to evolve. As these developments unfold, they mark a critical juncture for both the BRS and Congress in the region.
K Viplav Kumar's explicit support for the BRS and its leadership contrasts with the uncertainty surrounding his family members' political futures. His statement highlights the internal dynamics within political families and parties in times of change. As more details emerge regarding Keshav Rao and Vijaya Laxmi's decisions, their moves could significantly influence party alignments and strategies in upcoming elections.
The recent defections from the BRS to other parties reflect broader trends of political realignment in India's regional politics. These movements are not just about individual decisions but signal potential shifts in voter support and party strength. As such, they warrant close observation from political analysts and constituents alike.
