Kerala on high-alert ahead of PM Modi’s visit

Kerala has been put on high alert after a letter was received by the office of the BJP citing a threat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his visit to the state.

The letter has threatened a suicide attack during PM Modi's visit to Kochi on April 24.

The police have identified the man mentioned in the letter. The man however denied any involvement in the same. He told the cops that his name was used by his opponents to frame him. The police are however taking nothing to chance and have upped security in the state ahead of the high profile visit. The central probe agencies have meanwhile sought additional details.

Meanwhile a letter from the Additional Director General of Police has outlined that the security drills were leaked to the media. The letter also highlighted that several other threat perceptions, including one from the Popular Front of India (PFI) were under consideration. The BJP has raised concerns over the leak and called it a serious lapse by the state police.

The BJP's K Surendran has however maintained that all scheduled functions will take place.

Surendran had earlier sai that the PM will conduct a road show and address a public meeting.

"Prime Minister's visit to Kerala will give impetus to the state's development. There is a great expectation among the people of Kerala for this visit. PM Modi will hold a road show. People will come voluntarily to receive him. 'Yuvam' will be the conference that would mark the beginning of Kerala's political change. The youth who want the development of Kerala beyond party politics will participate in this," Surendran had said.
