Kerala: LKG student raped; school council blames child, asks why she didn't scream, bleed or faint!
The 4-year-old child, a student at an English school near Nadapuram town, in Kozhikode district, was sexually assaulted on October 30. However, the incident came into light only a week later as the parents were reluctant to report the incident to the police.
In a audio speech from November 11, 2014, released by a Malayalam news channel Reporter TV, Perode Abdul Rehman Saqafi, Secretary of the Siraj Ul Huda Complex which owns the school, can be heard blaming the child and her parents for the alleged rape.
In the speech Saqafi wonders how the child could behave normally after the alleged incident took place. The man continues to ask why the parents couldn't produce a credible medical report which says the child was raped.
Earlier, he had said that the kid's statement weren't credible and asked why her parents were reluctant for a medical examination.
Perode Abdul Rehman Saqafi is an Islamic scholar and a member of All India Sunni Jamiat Ulema. The head of the organisation, Kanthapuram A. P. Aboobacker Musliyar, too has made many controversial misogynistic statements in the past.
Once, when he was asked about the tradition in Muslim community in Kerala which allows men to have multiple wives, the Ismalic scholar replied that men should keep more wives so that he can meet his sexual needs when one of the wives is pregnant or having menstrual stress.
Kanthapuram had also demanded that Muslim girls should be allowed to marry by the age of 16 as unmarried girls are vulnerable in the society. (See here)
