Kerala IT engineer abducted in Libya released
An IT engineer from Kerala who was abducted in Libya in March this year has been released. The Indian Embassy in Libya said that the release of Regi Joseph has been secured and he is currently with his family in Tripoli.

The Embassy which had worked overtime managed to secure his release. The Embassy says that all assistance will be provided to facilitate his return to India. He was abducted in Libya by unidentified militia in the month of March 2016.
Regi was working as an infrastructure engineer in the Al-Diwan company which was implementing a national citizen database. There were instances when the rebel forces in Libya had tried to hack into the servers of the company several times. The abduction may have been connected to the same.
Following the abduction the Kerala government was called upon by the family members. External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj too had said that all efforts would be made to secure the release of the Indian national.
