Protests in Calicut varsity: Kerala HC asks police to provide protection to VC

Kochi, Nov 11: The Kerala High Court today directed police to provide effective and adequate protection to Calicut University Vice Chancellor Abdul Salam in the wake of frequent protests in the varsity.

The direction in this regard was issued by a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice A M Shaffique while considering a writ plea by Salam.

According to the Vice Chancellor, frequent strikes by students and employees associations were posing a threat to the smooth functioning of the university.

Allowing the petition, the bench directed police to provide protection to the VC and employees.
