Kerala govt firm on no to bauxite mining in Kasargod district
Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 17: Congress-led UDF government in Kerala today made it clear that there was no change in its earlier decision of not allowing bauxite mining at Kadaladipara in Kasargod district.
Replying to a submission in this regard in the Assembly, Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty said necessary order in this regard would be issued. The government had taken a decision in this regard after local people protested against bauxite mining, holding that it would lead to environmental problem.
Raising the issue, E Chandrasekheran (CPI), wanted to know whether government had changed its decision in the wake of a report that the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest had taken up an environment impact study on the region.
