Kerala Doctors Killed In Car Accident After GPS Shows River As Flooded Road

Tragedy struck as a car carrying two doctors met with a fatal accident in Kochi, Kerala, plunging into the Periyar river. The incident, which occurred at approximately 12:30 AM, resulted in the loss of both Advaith, 29, and Ajmal, 29, who were employed at a private hospital in the region. They were on their way back to Kodungallur and had reportedly been relying on Google Maps for navigation.

Tragically, they mistook the river for a waterlogged road, continuing until the car began to submerge. Regrettably, Advaith and Ajmal were unable to escape, while the other three occupants managed to exit, albeit with injuries.

Promptly, local residents came to the scene to assist and alerted the fire service and the police. Authorities dispatched a scuba diving team to the location to recover the bodies.

Three individuals were successfully rescued from the submerged car with the aid of locals and fire service personnel. Subsequently, they were discharged from the hospital following initial medical attention.

According to the police, "The visibility was very low at the time due to heavy rain. They were following a route shown by the Google map. But it seems like instead of taking a left turn as suggested by the maps, they mistakenly went forward and fell into the river."
