Speaking at the inauguration of the Global Science Festival Kerala (GSFK) at the Bio 360 Life Sciences Park in Thonnackal, the chief minister took an apparent dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's suggestion to bang utensils as a gesture of gratitude to healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Banging Utensils or Lighting Torches Not the Way to Promote Scientific Awareness

Vijayan stated that bringing up a scientifically aware generation cannot be achieved through actions like banging utensils or lighting torches. He stressed that when influential figures spread false ideas, those involved in science have a social responsibility to provide logical and scientific explanations to expose their falsehood.

Combating Divisive Thoughts and Harmful Traditions

The chief minister also highlighted the need for public awareness to stand up against divisive thoughts, harmful traditions, ideas of hatred, and superstitions. He pointed out that the Constitution grants every Indian citizen the right to defend and raise awareness to safeguard science.

Kerala Fulfilling Constitutional Responsibilities

Vijayan asserted that Kerala is fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities, particularly in times when nonsensical ideas are being propagated. He cited the Global Science Festival as a notable example of the state's commitment to promoting scientific awareness.
