Kerala: KSRTC Bus Collides With Auto Rickshaw, 3 Killed

In a shocking incident, three people died after the auto rickshaw which they were travelling collided with the state-run KSRTC bus in Malappuram.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 12.15 pm, according to a report in Mathrubhumi. Pulpetta natives Ashraf (44), his wife Sajitha (37) and their daughter Fida died in the accident.

The KSRTC bus was traveling from Palakkad to Kozhikode when an auto rickshaw, coming from the opposite direction, collided with it. The impact completely destroyed the auto rickshaw. The bodies were moved to the Manjeri Medical College mortuary.

It's disheartening to learn that they were en route to enroll their daughter Fida for the Plus One Class at Malappuram Girls Higher Secondary School.

Going by the early reports, the autorickshaw was traveling in the wrong direction.

While two died on the spot, the third passed away at the hospital.

The auto rickshaw was completely destroyed by the impact. The bodies were transferred to the Manjeri Medical College mortuary.

According to the 2023 accident data, road accidents in Kerala surged by 9.6 percent. While 43,910 road accidents were reported in Kerala in 2022, the number spiked to 48,141 in 2023, marking a notable increase of 4,231. This rise places Kerala in the third position behind Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra in terms of the highest number of accidents.

The figures reveal that 4,010 individuals lost their lives in road accidents in Kerala during 2023, which is 307 fewer than in 2022. However, there was a significant 10 percent increase in the number of injured persons from 2022 to 2023.
