Kerala: BJP worker hacked to death in CM Vijayan's hometown

Bengaluru, Oct 12: A BJP activist was on Wednesday hacked to death in Pinarayi, Kannur district in Kerala. This is yet another incident which speaks about the violent politics that exists in Kerala today.

The deceased has been identified as Remith. Ironically his father Uthaman, also a BJP activist, was killed due to political violence 8 years back. The incident took place in the home town of Kerala CM, Pinarayi Vijayan.

BJP activist hacked in Kannur, Kerala

Remith was attacked near a petrol pump in Pinrayi at around 10 am on Wednesday. He was hit on his head and neck before being stabbed to death, the police say.

BJP's spokesperson, M S Kumar said that it was an unfortunate incident. He was killed by CPM terrorists, he said. He also lashed out at Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan and accused him of acting like a "gunda" leader.

BJP's Meenakshi Lekhi said on Twitter that she was shattered. She said she had met Remith and his mother during a visit to Kannur. The police say that investigation is on and all efforts are being made to track and arrest the killers.

Police officials also say that they suspect that the murder was in retaliation to the killing of a CPI(M) worker on October 10. The police also have deployed additional security in the area where several incidents of sporadic violence have been reported.
