Kejriwal put on trial in defamation case filed by Jaitley

The next hearing in this case has been scheduled for May 20.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leader were put on trial by Delhi's Patiala House court on Saturday in a defamation case filed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Kejriwal and other leaders had pleaded not guilty before the court after a notice was issued to them in connection with the case.

Kejriwal is facing a defamation case worth Rs 10 crore for accusing Jaitley of corruption while the latter headed the DDCA for 13 years. Jaitley denied all allegations and filed a criminal defamation case against Kejriwal.

The next hearing in this case has been scheduled for May 20.

Jaitley was on March 6 cross-examined by senior advocate Ram Jethmalani in Delhi High Court in connection with the defamation case.

During the cross-examination, Jaitley is said to have said that his image was being tarnished.

Jaitley had in his complaint had said that Kejriwal and other AAP leaders with common intent had undertaken a 'false, malicious and defamatory campaign against him and his family members to gain
political mileage.'
