Rajnath Singh Highlights Cultural Unity as Essential to National Security

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasised the significance of unity in India, noting that divisions have historically led to defeat. He highlighted that preserving the nation's culture is as crucial as safeguarding its borders. "Whenever our unity has weakened, invaders have tried their best to destroy our civilisation and our culture," Singh stated. He urged learning from history to pledge unity.

Cultural Unity Key to National Security, Says Rajnath Singh

Speaking at Koti Deepotsavam, an event featuring mass lighting of Deepam during the Hindu month of Kartik, Singh stressed that those who seek to divide do so through various means, including religion, caste, and sects. He advised against division, urging everyone to remain united for a developed and strong India. "We have to stay united. If we avoid division, we will move towards development and build a developed and strong India," he said.

Unity and Cultural Preservation

Singh quoted ancient scriptures, asserting that unity is society's strength. He advocated spreading this light globally, as India views the world as one family. The government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focused on cultural revival alongside political, economic, and social development. "Cultural development is also important for a country along with political, economic and social development," Singh remarked.

He warned that losing cultural identity leads to national suffering. As Defence Minister, Singh sees border safety as his duty but equates cultural preservation with it. "As the defence minister, it is my responsibility to ensure that the country's borders remain safe under our leadership. But, in my view, keeping the country's culture safe is as important as ensuring the safety of the borders," he said.

The Role of Culture in National Identity

India's identity extends beyond politics; its rich cultural heritage spans thousands of years and garners global recognition. Singh noted that a nation comprises more than land and people; culture is integral. "No country is made up of just a piece of land and its people, rather a nation is made up of its culture," he explained.

He cautioned against fostering hatred towards one's own culture, which could eventually lead to division. Those attempting to divide India have portrayed its culture negatively, but increased awareness among citizens has ended this phase. "Those who tried to divide India and its people have tried to show our culture as inferior but that phase is now over due to the awareness of the countrymen," Singh said.

Cultural revival is currently underway in India, according to Singh. This resurgence reflects a broader effort to strengthen national unity by embracing cultural heritage. By focusing on both cultural preservation and border security, Singh envisions a stronger nation capable of overcoming historical challenges.
