Kashmiri Pandits Seek Government Clarity on Return and Rehabilitation Policy
In a recent development from Jammu on April 29, the Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS), a prominent organization championing the rights of displaced Kashmiri Pandits, has made a public appeal for clarity on the much-delayed return and rehabilitation policy for the community. The Kashmiri Pandits, who have been living in exile for over three decades, seek to return to their ancestral homes in the Kashmir Valley.

The organization's president, R.K. Bhat, expressed dismay over the lack of political representation for the Kashmiri Pandits in the upcoming elections. He highlighted the community's disappointment with certain political parties' decision not to field candidates in the Kashmir Valley. This move has left the community feeling neglected and disrespected.
During the inauguration of YAIKS's new office, Bhat called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the resettlement issue of Kashmiri Pandits in his next 'Mann Ki Baat' broadcast. He questioned the commitment of political parties to the cause, especially if they were to be re-elected.
The absence of political candidates from any party representing the Kashmiri Pandit community in Kashmir has raised concerns about who will voice their issues in Parliament over the next five years. Bhat emphasized the constitutional rights of displaced Kashmiris to be represented and protected.
He suggested that political parties could have nominated a community activist from among the Kashmiri Pandits to contest in the valley. Bhat revealed that had YAIKS been informed about this political void in a timely manner, they would have fielded their own candidate.
Bhat reaffirmed YAIKS's dedication to advocating for the welfare of displaced Kashmiri Pandits. He stated, "We will not rest until the organizational objective of reconnecting displaced communities to their lost roots in motherland Kashmir is fulfilled." He passionately declared that Kashmir belongs to them as much as they belong to Kashmir, underscoring the deep historical and emotional ties that bind the community to their homeland.
This call for clarity and action from YAIKS underscores the ongoing struggle of displaced Kashmiri Pandits and their desire for a dignified return to their ancestral lands. The organization's efforts highlight a significant issue that demands attention from all political parties and stakeholders involved.
