Kashmir Marathon: J&K CM Omar Abdullah Runs 21 km
Omar Abdullah achieved a milestone by completing Kashmir's inaugural International Marathon. He ran 21 km at an impressive pace, marking a significant moment in the region's history. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister participated in the marathon, maintaining an average speed of 5 minutes 54 seconds per kilometer. This accomplishment was particularly notable as he had never run beyond 13 km before.
The marathon began at Polo Stadium, where Abdullah flagged off the event. His family and fellow runners provided immense support, enhancing his experience. "Running past my home with family and others cheering me on was the best part," Abdullah shared on social media. He also mentioned relying on enthusiasm and makeshift snacks like a banana and khajoor to complete the run.

Promoting a Drug-Free Lifestyle
Abdullah emphasised the benefits of running for mental well-being. "You don't need drugs to feel good or beat stress," he stated on X (formerly Twitter). He encouraged people to run, whether short or long distances, to achieve natural euphoria and enthusiasm. His message aimed at promoting a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir resonated with many.
Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty attended the event alongside Abdullah, highlighting its importance. Shetty remarked, "People want to come to Kashmir, and an event like this sends a message to the entire world that participants from all over the globe are coming here." He described Jammu and Kashmir as a paradise for the world.
Political Landscape in Jammu and Kashmir
The recent Union Territory elections saw the NC-Congress alliance emerge victorious. These were the first polls in a decade and since Article 370's abrogation. The JKNC secured 42 seats, while Congress won six. Omar Abdullah was sworn in as J&K's first Chief Minister of the Union Territory, with Surinder Kumar Choudhary as his deputy after winning from Nowshera assembly seat.
This marathon not only showcased Abdullah's personal achievement but also highlighted Kashmir's potential as a global destination for such events. It sent a positive message about peace and unity in the region. The successful completion of this marathon is expected to inspire more such events in future.
