Karur Stampede Update: Actor Vijay Makes Two Requests To CBI Ahead Of Questioning - What Did He Ask For?

Actor-politician Vijay has reportedly asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for more time before appearing for questioning in connection with the Karur stampede case.

According to sources, the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has requested a 15-day extension and also asked whether the questioning could take place in Chennai or nearby locations instead of appearing at the CBI office as originally scheduled.

Officials are currently reviewing his requests, and a final decision has not yet been announced.

What Happened in the Karur Stampede?

The investigation relates to a tragic stampede that occurred during a political rally addressed by Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on September 27, 2025.

The incident resulted in the death of 41 people and injuries to more than 60 others. The tragedy triggered widespread public outrage and raised serious questions about crowd management and safety arrangements at the event.

Following the incident, authorities launched an investigation to determine whether there were lapses in planning or security measures.

Vijay Requests More Time From Investigators

Vijay had earlier been summoned to appear before CBI officials on March 10 for questioning related to the case.

However, sources say the actor has now written to the agency requesting 15 additional days before appearing. He also reportedly asked if investigators could arrange questioning in Chennai or a nearby location.

The CBI is currently examining the requests and is expected to issue a fresh summons after making a decision.

Case Shifted From SIT to CBI

Initially, the probe into the stampede was handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by state authorities.

However, due to the seriousness of the incident and growing public pressure for a detailed investigation, the case was later transferred to the CBI.

The federal agency is now responsible for examining the circumstances that led to the tragedy and identifying any possible negligence.

Vijay Already Questioned Earlier

This is not the first time Vijay has been questioned in the investigation.
Reports indicate that he previously appeared before CBI officials on January 10 and January 19, 2026, when investigators asked him about the planning, organisation and management of the rally where the stampede occurred.

Authorities are continuing to gather information from individuals connected with the event.

Other Political Figures Under Scanner

The investigation has also involved other political figures linked to the event.

According to reports, Karur MLA Senthil Balaji was also summoned in connection with the case but did not appear before the agency for questioning.
Officials are expected to take further steps as the investigation progresses.

Vijay Expressed Grief After the Tragedy

Following the stampede last year, Vijay publicly expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
In a message posted on social media, he shared his condolences with the families of those who died and prayed for the recovery of people who were injured during the incident.

The actor said he was deeply saddened by the tragedy and described the loss of lives as heartbreaking.
