Karnataka Cabinet Approves Implementation of Rs 5,000 Crore Water Resilience Project with World Bank Support
The Karnataka Cabinet has approved a significant project, the Karnataka Water Security and Disaster Resilience Programme (KWSRDP), with an estimated budget of Rs 5,000 crore. The World Bank is set to provide a loan of Rs 3,500 crore for this initiative. This project will commence following approval from the Department of Economic Affairs and the signing of a loan agreement with the World Bank.

In the cabinet meeting, it was decided that the Department of Revenue Disaster Management will oversee the implementation of the KWSRDP. Additionally, the Department of Finance has been tasked with negotiating the loan terms and currency with the World Bank. This negotiation is contingent upon approval from the Department of Economic Affairs.
Public Private Partnership Policy and Legislative Decisions
The cabinet also approved the Public Private Partnership Policy-2025. In another decision, it was resolved to withdraw the Karnataka Urban and Rural Planning Amendment Bill, 2024. This bill pertains to the premium floor area ratio (FAR). Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot had returned the bill, seeking clarifications on certain points.
Given that these clarifications involve legal aspects, consulting relevant stakeholders is deemed necessary. A comprehensive review is advisable, as noted in a cabinet document. This approach ensures that all legal concerns are addressed adequately before any further legislative action is taken.
The decisions made by the Karnataka Cabinet reflect a strategic approach to enhancing water security and disaster resilience while also addressing legislative matters with due diligence. These steps aim to ensure effective governance and sustainable development in the state.
