Karnataka polls: Shivaraj Kumar to campaign for Congress

Geetha Shivaraj Kumar, wife of Kannada actor Shivaraj Kumar, joined the Congress on Friday ahead of the May 10 assembly polls in Karnataka.

Her husband will be campaigning for Congress in the upcoming poll. Her brother Madhu Bangarappa is contesting in the Soraba constituency against his brother and BJP candidate Kumar Bangarappa.

Geetha Shivaraj Kumar, daughter of former Karnataka Chief Minister S Bangarappa, had earlier contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Shivvamogga constituency against BJP strongman BS Yediyurappa.

"Geetha has taken a decision seeking a new change. I always support the decisions taken by my wife. We will take part in campaigning from Saturday for Madhu Bangarappa, but I have to figure out based on my film schedule," The News Minute quoted Shivaraj Kumar as saying.

He then said that her father was in politics. Hence, there is no need for him to teach politics to her. The actor, popularly known as Shivanna, also mentioned that Geetha was involved in social work and skill training for children in Mysuru.

"Geetha has been working for 'Shaktidhama', the school in Mysuru, for a few years now, since the death of my mother. The children at the school have benefited greatly due to her efforts," he said and added, "Joining hands with a political party will enable us to intensify our social work too."

On her turn, Geetha said she is "committed to the Congress party" and will campaign for her brother Madhu Bangarappa.

KPCC President DK Shivakumar welcomed her to the party and said, "Geetha Shiva Rajkumar came to Congress from Rahul Gandhi's efforts and admiration for him. I am proud that Geeta is my leader Bangarappa's daughter. We are happy that Rajkumar's daughter-in-law, Shiva Rajkumar's wife has come to our party "

It is interesting to note that the Kannada actors Sudeep and Darshan are campaigning for the BJP candidates.
