Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Announces Seven Days of Mourning for Former PM Manmohan Singh
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has passed away at the age of 92 in New Delhi. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his condolences, describing Singh as a statesman with unmatched wisdom. He stated that Singh's legacy will continue to inspire future generations. In honour of Singh, Karnataka, governed by Congress, declared a seven-day state mourning and a public holiday on December 27.

Singh's death was confirmed by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi. He was admitted to the Emergency ward in critical condition around 8:30 PM. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar also mourned Singh's passing, noting that an era marked by integrity and quiet strength had ended. Sharing a photo with Singh on social media platform X, Shivakumar praised Singh's vision for the nation.
Legacy of Economic Reforms
Manmohan Singh is widely recognised as the architect of India's economic reforms. His tenure as Prime Minister saw significant policy changes that shaped the country's economic landscape. Former PM and JDS leader H D Deve Gowda remarked that Singh would be remembered for altering India's economic future. "Very sad to know the passing away of former Prime Minister, Shri Manmohan Singh," Gowda posted on X.
Siddaramaiah recalled becoming Karnataka's Chief Minister during Singh's tenure as Prime Minister. He credited Singh for supporting Karnataka's budgetary measures and praised landmark UPA policies like the Right to Food Act for influencing the state's progress and welfare initiatives. "Deeply saddened by the passing of former Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh ji," Siddaramaiah posted on X.

Deputy CM Shivakumar expressed personal loss over Singh's demise, calling him an extraordinary leader and human being. "His passing away feels like a personal loss to me," he said. Shivakumar extended his deepest condolences to Singh's family and loved ones, acknowledging him as a true son of the soil.
H D Deve Gowda shared his respect for Singh, highlighting his qualities as a patient man and brilliant economist. "He was a good and patient man, a brilliant economist, and a colleague I valued and respected," Gowda stated. The tributes reflect the profound impact Singh had on India's political and economic spheres.
