Karnataka minister D K Shivakumar appears before Income Tax officials
The senior Congress leader is likely to face charges under the Benami transactions act
Karnataka Energy Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday appeared before the officials of the Income Tax department. Accompanied by his brother and Congress MP D K Suresh, Shivakumar arrived at the Income Tax office situated on Queen's Road.

The income tax department had issued summons to the Congress leader following a three-day raid at multiple locations connected to the minister. While the summons and the appearance are the regular procedure, the case is expected to heat up with Shivakumar likely to face charges under the new Benami Transactions act.
Shivakumar had sought time till the Gujarat MLAs returned to their state. On Monday, as he bid adieu to the legislators, D K Shivakumar appeared for questioning.
He is likely to be questioned again along with three other aides and one family member who have all been called for an inquiry. Officials suspect that close to Rs 300 crore illegal assets belonged to the minister but in benami names.
