Karnataka: Hindu Boy Beaten, Abused For Roaming With Muslim Girl In Belagavi District

The Karnataka Police on Sunday arrested six persons over physical assault of a Hindu boy who was physically assaulted by a group of men for his friendship with a Muslim girl in Belagavi district.

According to the police officials, the teenager was badly beaten and verbally abused after he was spotted with a female friend who was a Muslim.The victim has been identified as Gyaneshwar. He is the owner of a footwear shop in Khade Bazar area of the Belagavi district. Reportedly, the incident took place in Khade Bazar area.

A video of the incident that went viral on social media shows the group of men assaulting and abusing the boy after they spotted him with a Muslim girl roaming around together. They allegedly cornered Gyaneshwar and lashed at him for befriending a Muslim girl.

An FIR has been registered against 13 people who were accused at the Market Police Station. Belagavi Commissioner of Police, Sidaramappa said the cops have arrested six people involved in the case and booked them under relevant sections of the law.

According to a senior officer, a search operation is underway to track the other accused who are involved in the case and are currently missing.

The police report reveals that the accused spotted Gyaneshwar and the Muslim girl while they were travelling in an auto-rickshaw from the Belagavi bus station to Khade Bazar. The men then gheraoed the teenager, beat him up, and abused him verbally. The victim was also threatened by the group of men for roaming around with a Muslim girl.
