Karnataka: Gaurakshaks crash dinner party, thrash tribals over beef
A gang of Bajrangdal activists accompanied by the police barged into the house and accused the family of slaughtering two cows.
Three youngsters from the Koraga tribal community were assaulted by members of the Bajrang Dal over beef in Udupi. The self-proclaimed Gaurakshaks allegedly barged into a dinner party and thrashed the men for 'slaughtering a cow'. Following a complaint by the family members, 13 people have been booked under Dalit atrocities act.

On April 24, members of the Koraga colony at Angodi near Trasi were holding a dinner party where guests were being served beef. A gang of Bajrangdal activists accompanied by the police barged into the house and accused the family of slaughtering two cows. While the police watched as mute spectators, the victims alleged, that they were thrashed by gaurakshaks. What came as another blow to the family was police registering cases for cow slaughter against the three youth and arresting them. The trio was let out on bail after a day.
"We received a tip-off on cows being slaughtered on that day. Our teams went there and arrested three men on the charge of slaughtering oxen, under the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964, after a complaint was lodged by one Sharath," said Praveen Nayak, deputy superintendent of police.
Shakuntala, a member of the Koraga community, however, filed a complaint against gaurakshaks who thrashed her family members following which cases were registered against them. In her complaint filed on Wednesday night, Shakuntala alleged that the activists not only beat up tribal youths but also threatened to set their houses on fire.
