Karnataka election: New opinion poll predicts BJP win with 90-94 seats; 85-89 for Congress

As the Karnataka poll date inches closer, an opinion poll conducted by Digvijaya news gave the BJP the upper hand, however, without a clear majority.

The survey showed that the BJP could win 90-94 seats in the House of 225, while the ruling Congress led by Siddaramaiah is projected to win 85-89 seats.

Going by the opinion poll, HD Deve Gowda's Janata Dal (Secular) will be the kingmaker in Karnataka, with the party and its pre-poll alliance member the Bahujan Samaj Party, winning 40 seats.

The opinion poll, like others before it, suggested that JD(S) could emerge as the kingmaker with 39-41 seats.

Congress will see its seat-share fall while the BJP will see its numbers go up. The improved performance, however, is not likely to ensure the saffron party of an outright win in the Karnataka Assembly election.

In 2013, the Congress had stormed to power by jumping from 80 to 122 seats, while the BJP had fallen from 110 seats to 40. The JD(S), meanwhile, had bagged 40 seats compared to its tally of 28 in 2008.
