Karnataka to Use AI Security to Protect Women in Healthcare
Karnataka's Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development, Sharan Prakash Patil, proposed incorporating AI technology into the security systems to enhance the safety of women healthcare workers across the state. This recommendation came during a high-level meeting at Vikasa Soudha, where measures to improve security at medical colleges, hospitals, and hostels were discussed.

Feedback Integration and Security Audits
Patil stressed the importance of integrating feedback from women healthcare professionals and other stakeholders. He urged directors of medical institutions to collect written feedback and take concrete steps to implement necessary measures. "Directors of medical institutions must gather feedback in writing and take concrete steps to implement necessary measures," he said.
A security audit committee was also suggested by Patil, which would hold monthly meetings to review safety protocols. He emphasised the need for thorough background checks for all security personnel to ensure a safe environment for healthcare staff.
24/7 Canteen Facilities
To further ensure safety, Patil recommended that 24/7 canteen facilities be available so that women healthcare staff do not need to leave the premises. This measure aims to provide a secure environment by reducing the need for staff to venture outside during odd hours.
Formation of Oversight Panel
Patil announced that a panel would be formed at the State Secretariat to oversee the implementation of these measures. This panel will ensure that all proposed safety enhancements are effectively put into practice.
Current Security Initiatives
B L Sujatha Rathod, Director of Medical Education, provided a detailed presentation on the current security initiatives in place. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Mohammad Mohsin, Principal Secretary of Medical Education, Mission Director of National Health Mission Y Naveen Bhat, and Venkateshmurthy, Joint Secretary.
This meeting followed a previous one led by Patil to review existing security systems and propose enhancements. The focus remains on creating a safer environment for women healthcare personnel through technological integration and systematic feedback mechanisms.
