Kargil Vijay Diwas to remember martyrs in Drass
Drass, July 25: Marking the 15th anniversary of India's victory in Kargil War on July 26, the Drass checkpoint is all decked up in advance for the Vijay Diwas celebrations.
But there was a heaviness in the air as armymen remembered their colleagues and fellow-fighters, some dead at the line of duty and some tortured to death, defending the country. Amid this Army chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag paid tribute to the martyrs in Drass this morning, marking the beginning of the celebrations.

Though the celebrations began on July 20, the main preparations have been done for the next two days starting July 25th. The evening show will include a pipe band and brass band display, which will be followed by a beating retreat ceremony.
The Army will then hold a memorial service at the Kargil War Memorial where religious leaders will be paying oblations. This will then be followed by lighting of lamps. Sunday will be the wreath-laying ceremony, followed by interaction with the Veer Naaris. The Army had organised shows by the Daredevils on 25th evening.
