    Captain Batra's role in the Kargil War was pivotal. Under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Yogesh Kumar Joshi, Captain Batra's D Company, alongside B Company, was tasked with capturing Point 5140. Despite being unwell, Captain Batra led his troops in a daring assault on June 19, 1999, securing the peak by the next morning. He was then promoted to Captain.

    The battalion moved to Mushkoh Valley to prepare for their next target, Point 4875. On July 4, 1999, Captain Batra led his troops through relentless enemy fire. During a crucial assault on July 7, 1999, despite sustaining serious injuries, he continued to lead and successfully neutralised several enemy soldiers before being fatally shot.Major Multani's tribute offers a poignant glimpse into the life of a national icon.

    Captain Vikram Batra's bravery and sacrifice remain etched in India's history as a testament to courage and dedication.
