Karanpur Bypoll: Over 80% Voter Turnout Recorded in Rajasthan Assembly Constituency

Karanpur, Rajasthan registered a remarkable voter turnout of over 80% in the assembly bypoll. BJPs Surendra Pal Singh and Congress Rupinder Singh are key contenders. Counting of votes scheduled for January 8.

In a significant development, the Karanpur assembly constituency in Rajasthan witnessed an impressive voter turnout of over 80 per cent as polling concluded on December 5. The bypoll was necessitated due to the unfortunate demise of the sitting Congress MLA, Gurmeet Singh Koonar. Minister Surendra Pal Singh is contesting the election as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee, having already been inducted into the state cabinet following the party's victory in the recent assembly polls.

Peaceful Polling Across Booths

According to officials, voting was conducted peacefully across all polling booths in Karanpur. The polling process commenced at 7 am and concluded at 6 pm, with voters braving the severe cold and fog conditions to exercise their democratic right. Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta reported that approximately 80.50 per cent of the total 2,40,826 registered voters had cast their ballots by the end of polling.

Congress Criticism of BJP Nominee's Induction

The Congress party has raised objections to the induction of Surendra Pal Singh into the Rajasthan cabinet prior to his election to the assembly. They contend that this action violates the model code of conduct. As per the rules, Singh has a six-month window from the date of his induction to get elected to the assembly.
