Kanpur Assistant Commissioner of Police Transferred Following Rape Allegations from IIT-Kanpur Scholar

A police officer in Kanpur has been transferred after a 26-year-old IIT-Kanpur research scholar accused him of rape. Mohammad Mohsin Khan, an assistant commissioner of police from the 2013 batch, was moved from the Collectorganj circle to the Director General of Police headquarters in Lucknow. The allegations led to a case being filed against him at Kalyanpur police station.

Kanpur ACP Transferred Over Rape Allegations

The officer is accused of using deceitful means to seek sexual relations. Despite the serious charges, he has not been arrested yet, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police South Ankita Sharma. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Additional DCP Traffic Archana Singh has been formed to investigate the case thoroughly and ensure it is resolved based on factual evidence.

Investigation and Institutional Support

The SIT has been tasked with conducting a detailed probe into the allegations. The team is expected to gather all necessary evidence to ensure justice is served. Meanwhile, IIT-Kanpur's Director Manindra Agrawal expressed support for the student, stating that the institute will provide all necessary assistance during this challenging time.

Agrawal also acknowledged the swift response from city police and emphasised cooperation with the ongoing investigation. He urged everyone to respect the student's privacy during this sensitive period.

Background and Allegations

Khan had enrolled at IIT-Kanpur five months ago for a PhD in cybercrime and criminology. During his studies, he reportedly formed a relationship with the research scholar, promising marriage after divorcing his wife. However, when he failed to fulfil this promise, the woman lodged a rape complaint against him.

DCP Sharma and Additional DCP Singh visited the campus in plain clothes to meet with the complainant and assess her claims. Initial findings suggest that the allegations against Khan are credible, leading to his transfer out of Kanpur to facilitate an unbiased investigation.

The police department is committed to ensuring a fair inquiry into these serious accusations. The transfer aims to prevent any influence on the investigation process, allowing for an impartial examination of all evidence presented.
