Kamlesh Paswan Sworn in as Minister of State After Fourth Lok Sabha Victory

In a significant political development, Kamlesh Paswan, following the legacy of his late father, secured a fourth consecutive victory from the Bansgaon SC Lok Sabha seat in the recent elections. This triumph not only underscores his political acumen but also marks his entry into a more prominent political role as he was sworn in as a Union Minister of State (MoS) on Sunday. At 47, Paswan represents a blend of experience and dedication, having defeated Sadal Prasad of the Congress by a margin of over 3,000 votes.

Paswan Becomes MoS After 4th Win

The Bansgaon constituency, known for its diverse assembly segments including Bansgaon SC, Chauri Chaura, Chillupar in Gorakhpur district, and Rudrapur and Barhaj in the adjacent Deoria district, has been a stronghold for the Paswan family. Kamlesh's mother, Subhawati Devi, also served as a Lok Sabha MP from Bansgaon SC in the 11th Lok Sabha. The political journey of the Paswan family is marked by resilience and continuity amidst adversity, especially after the assassination of Kamlesh's father, Om Prakash Paswan, in 1996.

Om Prakash Paswan's political career was distinguished by his service as an MLA from the Maniram assembly constituency under various party banners including Hindu Mahasabha and BJP. Following his untimely demise, his brother Chandresh Paswan took over the mantle as an MLA from Maniram on an SP ticket. Kamlesh Paswan himself served as an MLA from Maniram from 2002 to 2007, showcasing his versatility across party lines.

Apart from his political engagements, Kamlesh Paswan is also a businessman with an academic background in political science, holding an MA from DDU Gorakhpur University. Despite discrepancies in his educational qualifications reported in election affidavits, his interest in sports and active involvement in politics highlight a multifaceted personality.

The political landscape of Bansgaon has been significantly shaped by the Paswan family, with Kamlesh's younger brother Vimlesh Paswan securing victories as an MLA from Bansgaon assembly constituency on a BJP ticket in 2017 and 2022. This continuity of service and representation underscores the deep-rooted connection and commitment of the Paswan family to their constituency and its people.

Kamlesh Paswan's ascent to the role of Union Minister of State is not just a personal achievement but a testament to his family's enduring legacy in Indian politics. His journey from witnessing the tragic loss of his father to ascending the political ladder reflects resilience and dedication. As he embarks on this new chapter, his contributions to both his constituency and at the national level are keenly anticipated.
