Kamal Haasan's party to contest in local body elections
Superstar Kamal Haasan on Tuesday announced that his newly launched political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, will contest in the upcoming local body election in Tamil Nadu.

Kamal Haasan was speaking at Maiam Gram Panchayat Meet in Chennai said, " We are going to contest in the upcoming local body elections."
Makkal Needhi Maiam hosted a mock Gram Panchayat on the 25th year anniversary of 73rd and 74th Amendment of Indian Constitution ( Panchayati Raj Act and The Nagarpalika Act)
Haasan, who has already said his party would contest the next assembly elections due in 2021, once again reiterated his village-centric approach.
By invoking Article 243 (of the Constitution that lists the powers of gram sabha), we can secure 234 (the number of assembly seats in Tamil Nadu), he said.
Asked about casting couch in film industry, Kamal Haasan this isn't place to discuss casting couch. He said, " We're forming a new Tamil Nadu here. It's irrelevant. But considering I'm from fthe ilm industry, every woman has right to kick away that couch. No woman should speak in its favor."
Kamal Haasan has launched - Makkal Needhi Miam - at a public meeting in Madurai in February.
