A devastating incident occurred at Delhi's Kalkaji Temple during a religious function, resulting in the unfortunate death of a woman named Tina and injuries to 17 others. The incident took place when an elevated wooden platform at the venue collapsed, unable to bear the weight of the people seated on it. The police have initiated a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and identify those responsible.
Establishing the Main Organizer
To establish the main organizer of the religious function, the police have questioned six individuals, including members of the Sri Kalkaji Sajja Sevadar Mitr Mandal. Satish Kumar had submitted the application for the jagran on behalf of the mandal. Notices have been served to additional individuals to join the ongoing probe.
Inadequate Intimation to Authorities
Preliminary investigations reveal that the organizers failed to provide any intimation to the local police or administration regarding the scale of the event within the temple premises. This oversight has raised concerns about the safety measures and adherence to regulations.
Identifying Responsible Parties
The police are diligently working to identify all individuals responsible for the tragic incident. Their investigation extends to the land owner of the Mahant Parishar, the owner of the tenthouse involved, promoters, and performers associated with the event.
Legal Action Initiated
A case has been registered against unknown persons under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 337 (causing hurt by an act that endangers life or safety of others), 304A (causing death by negligence), and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant).
Event Details and Attendees
The jagran was held at the Mahant Parishar of the temple, attracting a large crowd of over 1,600 attendees. Renowned singer B Praak performed at the program but had departed before the unfortunate incident occurred.
The tragic stage collapse at Kalkaji Temple has left the community in mourning and raised important questions about safety protocols during such events. The ongoing police investigation aims to establish accountability, prevent future incidents, and ensure the safety of attendees at religious and cultural gatherings.
