Kaifiyat Express derails in UP, over 50 injured
The Kaifiyat Express has derailed near Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh. Ten coaches of the train derailed following which over 60 were injured.
The accident occurred at around 2.40 am when the train collided with a dumper. No casualties have been reported so far. The accident occurred between Eatawah and Kanpur. The train plies between Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
PRO Anil Saxena confirmed that the accident took place after the train hit a dumper. He also said that there is no news of any deaths reported so far.
Ten compartments along with the engine of the train were derailed due to the collision. One compartment overturned. Rescue work is in progress.
The injured were rushed to the Achhalda civil hospital.
All concerned railway authorities have reached the spot for review and assistance. A medical relief train has been dispatched from Delhi.
Railways minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted about the mishap, saying that he is personally monitoring the situation. An NDRF team has been rushed to the spot for rescue and relief purposes, news agency ANI reported. NCR sources said that work for a dedicated freight corridor was going on at the site at the time of the accident.
The incident comes just three days after 14 coaches of the Kalinga Utkal Express derailed at Khatauli on Saturday killing 22 people and injuring dozens.
In view of the accident, all passenger trains scheduled to run on Kanpur-Tundla section have been cancelled and 7 trains have been diverted.
