Just two candidates with pending criminal cases in new Nagaland assembly
The Nagaland Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all the winning MLAs in Nagaland.
Out of the 60 candidates who won the just concluded Nagaland assembly elections, only 2 have declared pending criminal cases against them.
The affidavits of the winning candidates were analysed by the Nagaland Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Only one candidate has declared a serious criminal candidate pending against them as per their self-sworn affidavit.
Here are the details:
Winning candidates with criminal cases: Out of the 60 winning candidates analysed in 2023, 2(3%) winning candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. Out of 60 MLAs analysed during Nagaland Assembly elections in 2018, 2(3%) MLAs had declared criminal cases against themselves.
Winning candidates with serious criminal cases: 1 (2%) winner candidate has declared serious criminal cases against himself. Out of 60 MLAs analysed during Nagaland Assembly elections in 2018, 2 (3%) MLAs had declared serious criminal cases against themselves.
Party wise Winning candidates with Criminal Cases: 1(4%) out of 25 winning candidates analysed from NDPP and 1 (8%) out of 12 winning candidates analysed from BJP have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Party wise Winning candidates with Serious Criminal Cases: 1(8%) out of 12 winning candidates from BJP have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Financial details:
Crorepati Winning candidates: Out of the 60 winning candidates analysed, 52 (87%) are crorepatis. Out of 60 MLAs analysed during Nagaland assembly elections 2018, 45 (75%) MLAs were crorepatis.
Party-wise crorepati winning candidates: 24 (96%) out of 25 from NDPP, 11 (92%) out of 12 from BJP, 6 (86%) out of 7 from NCP, 4 (80%) out of 5 from NPP and 3 (75%) out of 4 Independent winning candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.
Average assets: The average of assets per winning candidate in the Nagaland Assembly Elections 2023 is Rs 9.14 Crores. The average of assets per MLA in the Nagaland Assembly Elections 2018 was Rs 5.16 crore.
Party wise average assets: The average assets per winning candidate for 25 NDPP winning candidates is Rs 9.02 Crores, 12 BJP winning candidates is Rs 5.39 Crores, 7 NCP winning candidates is Rs 4.65 Crores, 5 NPP winning candidates is Rs 6.44 Crores and 4 Independent winning candidates have average assets worth Rs 2.74 Crores.
Other details
Age details of winning candidates: 23 (38%) winning candidates have declared their age to be between 31 and 50 years while 36 (60%) winning candidates have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years and 1 winner candidate has declared his age 86 years.
Gender details of winning candidates: Out of 60 winning candidates analysed, 2 (3%) winning candidates are women. Out of 60 MLAs, there were no women MLAs in the Nagaland 2018 Assembly Elections.
