West Bengal Junior Doctors to Keep Up Protest Until Promised Changes Occur

Junior doctors in West Bengal have vowed to persist with their 'cease work' and protests until all promises made by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are fulfilled. They celebrated Banerjee's decision to remove Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, calling it a moral victory.

Medics Continue Protest for Promises

One of the protesting doctors stated, "We will continue with our cease work and demonstration here at the ‘Swasthya Bhavan’ health department headquarters till the promises made by the CM materialise. We also look forward to Tuesday's hearing in the Supreme Court in connection with the RG Kar rape-murder case."

Doctors Await Supreme Court Hearing

The junior doctors plan to hold a meeting after the Supreme Court hearing on Tuesday to decide on the future of their protest. They have been demonstrating for over a month, demanding justice for a colleague who was raped and murdered at RG Kar hospital on August 9.

Earlier, Banerjee announced the removal of key officials, including the director of health services and the director of medical education, in response to the doctors' demands. This decision followed an extensive meeting with the protesting doctors aimed at resolving the prolonged standoff.

Support from Common People

The medics acknowledged the support they received from the public, which they believe was crucial for their movement. "Our movement was possible only because of the support of common people. The state administration had to bow in front of our agitation after 38 days. We still have a long way to go till we get justice for our sister," another junior doctor said.

The announcement by Banerjee came after a meeting held at her Kalighat residence with a delegation of junior doctors. Following this meeting, the medics returned to 'Swasthya Bhavan' and addressed the media, expressing their determination to continue their protest until all their demands are met.

The junior doctors' ongoing agitation highlights their commitment to seeking justice and ensuring that promises made by the state government are honoured. Their actions have drawn significant attention and support from various quarters, underlining the gravity of their cause.

The outcome of Tuesday's Supreme Court hearing will be pivotal in determining the next steps for these agitating medics as they continue their fight for justice and systemic changes within the healthcare sector.
