Jobs Alert! PM Modi Meets Elon Musk In US, Tesla Begins Hiring In India

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi and tech gaints Elon Musk's meeting in the US, the Tesla Inc. has started hiring employees in India, indicating its imminent market entry. The electric vehicle company has posted job openings for 13 positions on LinkedIn, including roles in customer service and technical support.

Among the advertised positions, five are based in both Mumbai and Delhi, such as service technician and advisory roles. Other roles like customer engagement manager and delivery operations specialist are specifically for Mumbai. This hiring spree suggests Tesla's serious intent to establish a presence in India.

India's Evolving EV Market

India's electric vehicle market is still developing compared to China, but it presents an opportunity for Tesla amidst slowing sales elsewhere. Last year, India's electric car sales approached 100,000 units, while China sold 11 million. The reduced customs duty on high-end cars priced above $40,000 from 110% to 70% may further encourage Tesla's entry.

Tesla's interest in India aligns with PM Modi's recent discussions with Musk and former President Donald Trump in Washington. Trump mentioned that Modi agreed to negotiate addressing the US trade deficit and increasing military purchases, including potential F-35 fighter jet supplies.

Musk's Multifaceted Role

Musk's involvement with Trump's administration blurs his business and political interests. Although Musk is part of Trump's cabinet, it's unclear if he met Modi as a CEO or in his governmental role. This dual role adds complexity to his engagements with international leaders.
