New Delhi, Sept 14: The DUSU elections were swept by ABVP and it has also managed to come back in the central panel with Saurabh Kumar Sharma bagging the joint secretary's post with 1,154 votes. The previous winner of the polls was Sandeep Mahapatra, who is presently the senior BJP leader.
One of the students said,"All contestants gave a tough fight and the polls were competitive. However, AISF's win was evident owing to the exemplary performance of their presidential candidate Kanhaiya Kumar.
" Meanwhile, the newly elected president Kanahiya Kumar said,"Today's results are the reflection of the political understanding of the students on the campus. The campus has always rejected the divide and rule politics of the saffron flag. AISF will deal with larger political challenges on the campus. We will revive the varsity's political legacy and initiate movement against the Lyngdoh Committee."
People are disappointed with AISA as they have not been able to fulfil their promises. For instance, the issues with hostels too has not been entertained.
Apart from th ecentral panel, 31 councillors too were elected. ABVP had a clean chit here too with 11 posts and nine went to AISA. The rest of the seats were won by independent candidates. 22 candidates tested their fortunes for th ecentral panel and 83 were in fray for the councillors post.
The parties that contested the the elections at JNU this year were All India Students Federation (AISF), All India Students Association (AISA), Students Federation of India (SFI), National Students Union of India (NSUI), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Democratic Student's Federation (DSF) and Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students' Association (BAPSA).
