New Delhi: The Delhi police told the High Court that in the video of the JNU event, Kanhaiya Kumar cannot be seen raising anti national slogans. The submission was made to the Delhi high court which is hearing the bail plea of Kumar, the JNU student leader.

The Delhi High Court reserved its order on the bail plea till Wednesday, while asking the Delhi police, "do you even know what sedition is?"

The Delhi police which had opposed the bail plea of Kumar said that the video did not show him raising anti national slogans. However the police also added that there was evidence from witnesses which suggests that he raised the slogans.

Kumar was arrested by the Delhi police on sedition charges following a February 9 event at the JNU in which a pro Afzal Guru event was held. The case of the police was that anti national slogans were raised.

The order of the Delhi High Court on whether Kumar will be granted bail or not will be pronounced on March 2. The Delhi government which was part of this hearing however did not oppose the bail plea filed by Kumar. The Delhi government told the court that there was no solid evidence against Kumar while adding that no innocent should be in jail.

Earlier the counsel for Kumar, Kapil Sibal argued that the Delhi police had failed to make out sedition charges against his client. He said that there was no evidence to even show that Kumar had raised anti national slogans.

He requested the court to take a thorough view of the matter and grant his client bail.
Sources say that the Delhi police are likely to drop sedition charges in the final chargesheet.

No such decision has however been taken in the case of Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya who are also facing sedition charges in connection with the same case.
