JNU VC wants Army tank in campus to remind students of sacrifices by jawans
During the event, General Bakshi termed the JNU as a “new and transformed campus”.
The vice chancellor has requested that an Army tank be placed at the Jawaharlal Nehru University. The VC of the JNU Jagdish Kumar requested union minister V K Singh to help procure an Army tank so that it could be stationed at the university.
He said that the presence of an Army tank would remind students of the great sacrifice and valour of the Indian Army and defence forces.

The statement was made at an advance celebration programme for Kargil Vijay Divas. In attendance at the event were Dharmendra Pradhan, minister of state for Petroleum and Natural Gas amd VK Singh, minister of state for external affairs, retd major general, GD Bakshi and international cricketer Gautam Gambhir. The attendance of the students was however very low.

During the event, General Bakshi termed the JNU as a "new and transformed campus". Taking a jibe at the Left-leaning students in JNU he said, "See how we turned things around. We want to make them understand how people in the Army lay down their lives. Last year, what happened at JNU was a clear show of shamelessness by separatist forces," the retired officer also said.
