JNU Election Results: Dhananjay, Avijit Ghosh, Priyanshi Arya And Sajid Are Winners

United Left candidates have reportedly emerged victorious in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Student Union elections.

Dhananjay, hailing from Gaya in Bihar, has registered a thumping victory and he will be the President of the JNUSU, as he secured 2598 votes. He defeated his rival Umesh Chandra Ajmeera from the ABVP with over 900 votes.

Announcing the results, the Chairperson of the Election Committee (CEC) at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Shailendra Kumar said, "For the post of President the names of the candidates are Dhananjay (Left)- 2598 votes, Umesh Chandra Ajmeera (ABVP)- 1676 votes...I declare Dhananjay (Left) elected."

Dhananjay is the second Dalit candidate to become the President of the JNUSU and first ever from the Left. In 1996-97, Lal Bairwa had become the first Dalit candidate to become the President of the JNU.

The election saw a 73 per cent voter turnout, marking the highest participation rate in over a decade.

Speaking to ANI, newly-elected JNU President (Left's) Dhananjay said, "This is a win for the students...The students have elected the Left against the fraud & funds being cut by the government..."

Also, Avijit Ghosh was elected to the post of Vice-President, Priyanshi Arya (BAPSA Left Supported) was elected as the General Secretary and Mo Sajid (Left) was elected as the Joint Secretary.

Shailendra Kumar says, "For the post of Vice President the name of candidates are Ankur Rai- 814, Avijit Ghosh (Left)- 2409 votes, Deepika Sharma (ABVP)- 1482 votes... I declare Avijit Ghosh (Left) elected."

Newly-elected Vice President of JNU, (Left's) Avijit Ghosh said, "JNUSU's elections are historic, it is being held after four years...JNUSU has always fought for the rights of the students..."
