JK and Ladakh Launch Four New NCC Units and Air Squadron with Microlight Aircraft

The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have welcomed four new National Cadet Corps (NCC) units. This includes the establishment of the first Air Squadron in Udhampur, which has received two microlight aircraft. The formal inauguration is set for October 25. The Ministry of Defence's decision to increase NCC vacancies has led to these new opportunities for youth, according to Defence Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Suneel Bartwal.

New Opportunities for Youth

The initiative aims to inspire young aviators and develop skills in leadership, teamwork, and discipline. The new units will be located in Udhampur, Kupwara, and Kargil. The ceremonial handing over of the NCC Scroll will occur on October 25 at Udhampur. Preparations are underway to ensure the event's success, with officers, staff, and cadets actively involved.

This expansion will allow an additional 13,950 cadets from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to join the premier youth engagement programme. This development aligns with India's efforts to engage and empower its youth through focused initiatives. The Virus SW-80 microlight aircraft, known for their lightweight design and fuel efficiency, will be part of a comprehensive training programme.

Training with Microlight Aircraft

These microlights will help cadets develop air-mindedness while learning flight fundamentals, aircraft maintenance, and safety protocols. Permanent Instructors at the new Air Squadron NCC in Udhampur will guide this training. Lt Col Bartwal highlighted that establishing the first Jammu and Kashmir Air Squadron NCC at Udhampur is a historic milestone.

The aircraft were flown from Delhi to Udhampur Air Base, where Station Commander Group Captain L S Chaaran and Commanding Officer Wing Commander Nitin Yadav received them. Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, Director General NCC, played a crucial role in ensuring the aircraft arrived ahead of schedule. This achievement underscores the organisation's commitment to providing exceptional aviation training for cadets.

The introduction of these new units marks a significant step in enhancing opportunities for young people in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. By fostering essential skills and offering unique experiences, this initiative aims to empower the region's youth further.
