Jind rape and murder case: Suspected accused found dead in Kurukshetra

Haryana Police had expedited efforts to find the whereabouts of a Balmiki youth, a student of Class 12, for questioning in the rape and murder case of a 15-year-old Dalit girl at a village in Jind. The boy went missing from Jhansa village under mysterious circumstances on January 9.

RC Mishra, ADGP Ambala Range, said, "We're investigating and scanning all CCTV cameras in the area. All people related to the case are being interrogated. After we receive FSL report, we can make a further comment."

The body of the 15-year-old girl, who had been missing since last Tuesday after she left home for tuition classes, was found near a canal at Budha Khera village in Jind district's Safidon town.

The girl, who belonged to a village in Kurukshetra district, had been brutally assaulted. Her private parts were mutilated and some of her vital organs had been ruptured, the official said. The recent incidents were a stark reminder of the December 16 Nirbhaya case in which a physiotherapy intern was raped by a group of men in a moving bus and a rod inserted into her body. She died in a hospital 13 days later.

An FIR was registered under section 302 IPC.
