Jharkhand Polls: Oneindia Captures Public Pulse Amid High Expectations for Change

As Jharkhand gears up for its upcoming Assembly elections, the political atmosphere is heating up. With the current Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance government, which includes the Congress, RJD and Left parties, holding power, the opposition BJP is eyeing a comeback.

To succeed, the BJP must focus on key regions like Santhal Pargana and Kolhan, where it has struggled in previous elections.

Jharkhand Polls Oneindia Captures Public Pulse Amid High Expectations for Change

Santhal Pargana, which has 18 Assembly seats, saw the BJP win only three in the last election. Meanwhile, in Kolhan, which holds 14 seats, the party failed to secure even one, a major setback considering it lost the crucial Jamshedpur East seat, where former Chief Minister Raghubar Das was defeated.

The election dynamics have shifted significantly since January when Chief Minister Hemant Soren was forced to resign due to a corruption case, even spending time in jail before being released on bail. Soren's return to power, after briefly handing over the reins to Champai Soren, who later defected to the BJP, has added another layer of complexity to the upcoming elections. Champai Soren, a veteran of the Jharkhand movement, remains a prominent figure in Kolhan, often referred to as the "Kolhan Tiger."

Amid this political drama, Oneindia's special team, embarked on a journey from New Delhi to Ranchi to capture the public's pulse. The people of Jharkhand are expressing their concerns over issues like unemployment, development and governance. The Election Commission is slated to announce the poll dates soon. People's expectations are high, with a focus on strong leadership and accountability. Stay tuned to Oneindia for more on this evolving political landscape.
