Jharkhand mob assault cases in Deoghar and Koderma linked to childlifter rumours

Police in Jharkhand said two people were allegedly assaulted in Deoghar and Koderma after locals suspected them of childlifting. In Deoghar, a man was detained while travelling with a village boy in an auto; in Koderma, a mentally challenged man was attacked. Both were rescued and taken to hospital as inquiries continue.

Police in Jharkhand said two people were allegedly assaulted on Monday after rumours spread about childlifting. The incidents were reported from Deoghar and Koderma districts. In both cases, police said the victims were rescued and taken to hospital. Officers said the attacks followed suspicion among locals, not confirmed evidence of any crime.

In Deoghar district, a group in Sura village, under Patharadda outpost, reportedly stopped an unidentified man aged about 35. Police said the man was in an auto while taking a boy. Sarath SDPO Ranjit Lakra said the man was rescued from locals and admitted to hospital for treatment.

Ranjit Lakra said the injured man seemed to be from outside the area. Police said the child involved was from the same village. The officer said a formal inquiry will follow. An FIR will be filed after the victim’s condition improves. Police said the man has not shared a name or other details.

Jharkhand childlifting rumours: Assault reported in Koderma

Police reported a separate attack in Koderma district in Moriyawan village. The area falls under Tilaiya police station. A mentally challenged person was allegedly beaten by a group of people. Police later reached the site, rescued the person, and sent the victim to hospital for medical care.

Tilaiya OC Vinay Kumar said, "As soon as we received the information, we reached the spot and rescued the man. The victim is mentally unstable, and so far we have found that he hails from Naresh Nagar.\" Police said the victim’s condition and background were being checked based on early findings.

Jharkhand childlifting rumours: Jamtara launches awareness drive

Meanwhile, the Jamtara district administration flagged-off an awareness chariot on Monday to counter childlifting rumours. Deputy Commissioner DC Ravi Anand and SP Rajkumar Mehta flagged it off during a programme. Officials said the effort aimed to warn residents against taking the law into their own hands.

DC Ravi Anand said the programme aimed to curb rumours about childlifting in the district. SP Rajkumar Mehta urged people to contact police if they suspect anyone. SP Rajkumar Mehta said residents should inform the nearest police station or dial 112. Police said the message was meant to prevent more assaults.
