Jharkhand to Launch Cash Transfer Scheme for Women, Aims at Empowerment
The Jharkhand government is set to introduce a new financial aid initiative for women, drawing inspiration from West Bengal's Lakshmir Bhandar scheme. Named the Mukhya Mantri Bahan Beti Swabalamban Yojana, this program aims to support economically disadvantaged women across all categories within the 25 to 50 age bracket. Chief Minister Champai Soren emphasized the government's dedication to enhancing women's education, health, and empowerment during a review meeting with the Women, Child Development and Social Security Department.

According to a senior official, the scheme proposes a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 for eligible women. However, this proposal awaits approval from both the finance department and the cabinet. Chief Minister Soren has instructed officials to expedite preparations to ensure timely delivery of the scheme's benefits to qualified recipients. Additionally, he has ordered the Information Technology Department to swiftly develop a portal for the scheme, facilitating easier access for potential beneficiaries.
In a significant move earlier this year, the Jharkhand cabinet expanded its old-age pension scheme to include all women, tribals, and Dalits over 50 years of age. Previously, only individuals above 60 were eligible for this benefit, which also provides Rs 1,000 monthly. This expansion reflects the state's ongoing commitment to supporting its vulnerable populations through targeted financial assistance programs.
The introduction of the Mukhya Mantri Bahan Beti Swabalamban Yojana represents a significant step towards empowering women in Jharkhand. By providing financial aid to those in need, the state aims to improve their living standards and enable them to play a decisive role in their families and communities. With preparations underway and official approvals pending, the scheme is poised to make a meaningful difference in the lives of countless women across Jharkhand.
