Jharkhand Election 2024 Predictions: Can BJP Outperform JMM-Congress? Check Opinion Poll Result
According to a recent survey conducted by the Matrize agency, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA is poised for a sweeping victory in the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. The survey predicts that the NDA will secure between 45 and 50 seats in the 81-seat Assembly, significantly surpassing the majority threshold of 41 seats. This forecast signals a major shift in the state's political dynamics, especially considering the previous Assembly elections in 2019, where the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress alliance had the upper hand.

The Matrize survey's findings suggest a challenging outlook for the INDIA bloc, which includes JMM, Congress, and the Rashtriya Janata Dal. It is projected that this alliance will only manage to win 18 to 25 seats, a stark contrast to the dominance it displayed in the last elections. The remaining seats are expected to be claimed by other parties.
The NDA's strategic seat-sharing arrangement sees the BJP contesting 68 seats, while its allies, the AJSU, JDU, and LJP, are contesting 10, 2, and 1 seats, respectively. This strategy aims to consolidate the NDA's position across the state, leveraging the strengths of each partner in their respective strongholds.
The backdrop to the 2024 elections includes significant political developments that have set the stage for a heated contest between the NDA and the INDIA bloc. The previous Assembly elections saw the JMM-Congress alliance forming the government, with the JMM securing 30 seats and Congress 16, thereby ousting the then NDA government led by Chief Minister Raghubar Das of the BJP. In that election, the NDA, including the AJSU, secured a total of 27 seats.
A victory in the upcoming elections would mark a significant turnaround for the NDA, which has been focusing on recapturing the tribal vote—a crucial demographic that slightly leaned away from it during the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. The BJP, in particular, has been actively addressing tribal issues and intensifying its campaign on national themes such as the threat of Bangladeshi infiltrators, demographic changes, and the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code to garner support.
The elections are scheduled to unfold in two phases, with the first phase covering 38 seats on November 13 and the second phase involving the remaining 43 seats on November 20. The final results will be announced on November 23, following the conclusion of the campaigning period, which ends at 5 PM on November 11.
This significant electoral battle comes after the NDA managed to win 9 out of 14 seats in the tribal-dominated state in the recent Lok Sabha elections, despite the INDIA bloc securing 5 seats.
In the 2019 general elections, the NDA had a more dominant performance, winning 13 of the 14 seats. The upcoming Assembly elections, therefore, represent not only a chance for the NDA to further solidify its presence in Jharkhand but also an opportunity for the BJP to continue its focus on key issues that resonate with the electorate.
