Jharkhand Congress Appeals To Election Commission Over BJP's Allegations Against Irfan Ansari
The Jharkhand Congress has urged the Election Commission to take strict measures against the BJP for allegedly spreading misleading information about Minister Irfan Ansari, amid rising tensions as elections approach.
A delegation from the Jharkhand Congress approached the Election Commission with a plea for severe measures against the BJP. They accused the BJP of besmirching the reputation of Congress Minister Irfan Ansari. This move came after the BJP's state division lodged a formal complaint with the EC, alleging Ansari had made disrespectful comments about their party member, Sita Soren.
Sita Soren escalated the matter by posting a video clip on X, showcasing the purported derogatory remarks, and sought an apology from Ansari. In his defense, Ansari dismissed the video as 'tampered.' To counter these claims, the Congress team delivered a USB drive to Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar, which contained what they claimed was the 'original' footage of Ansari's comments. They argued that the BJP has been circulating a 'misleading' and 'altered' version on social media platforms in a bid to smear Ansari's image.

The BJP has strategically chosen Soren to run against Ansari for the Jamtara assembly seat in the upcoming elections scheduled for November 20, as part of the second phase. According to Congress leader Rajesh Gupta, Ansari has been persistently targeted by BJP officials. Gupta labeled the allegations as unfounded and asserted that the BJP, finding itself trailing in the Jamtara constituency, has resorted to spreading such falsehoods to stay in the political contest.
The Congress has called upon the election authority to enact stringent measures to halt this kind of "false" and "misleading" propaganda, aiming to safeguard the integrity and impartiality of the electoral proceedings. Amidst these accusations, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has expressed his disapproval of Ansari's purported comments about Soren. Chouhan considered the remarks a slight against the women of Jharkhand and has appealed to Chief Minister Hemant Soren to dismiss Ansari from his cabinet position promptly for his controversial statements.
This incident underscores the heated political rivalry in the state and the importance of maintaining decorum and respect in political discourse, especially in the lead-up to crucial electoral events. The call for action by the Congress delegation emphasizes the necessity for a fair and clean election process, devoid of personal attacks and misinformation campaigns.
