Jharkhand is set for a crucial electoral battle as 43 out of 81 assembly seats go to polls on Wednesday. The fate of 683 candidates, including former Chief Minister Champai Soren and ex-MP Geeta Kora, will be decided. Voting will commence at 7 am across 15 districts and continue until 5 pm, except in 950 booths where it will end an hour earlier.

Jharkhand Polls: 43 Assembly Seats Voting

A total of 1.37 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes out of the state's 2.60 crore population. Among the candidates, there are 609 men, 73 women, and one person from the third gender. The seats include 17 for general category candidates, 20 for Scheduled Tribes, and six for Scheduled Castes.

Election Preparations and Security

Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar confirmed that all arrangements for the election have been finalised. Polling personnel have reached their respective stations, with mock polls scheduled to start at 5:30 am. Women will manage voting at 1,152 polling stations, while 24 booths will be operated by persons with disabilities.

The BJP-led NDA is focusing on issues like infiltration and corruption, while the JMM-led coalition highlights welfare schemes such as Maiyan Samman Yojana. The BJP's campaign has seen top leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressing rallies to criticise the current government.

Campaign Strategies and Promises

The INDIA bloc, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has accused the BJP-led Centre of misusing central agencies against opposition parties. They have promised welfare schemes to counter the BJP's aggressive Hindutva narrative.

The BJP's promises include driving out infiltrators, implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), providing Rs 2,100 monthly to women, and creating five lakh jobs for youth. In response, the JMM has pledged Rs 2,500 financial aid to women and reserved government jobs for them.

Key Contests and Candidates

In Seraikela, former CM Champai Soren is contesting on a BJP ticket against Ganesh Mahli of JMM. Geeta Kora faces Congress's Sona Ram Sinku in Jagannathpur. Rameshwar Oraon of Congress competes with AJSU Party's Shanti Bhagat in Lohardaga.

Saryu Roy from JD(U) challenges Congress's Banna Gupta in Jamshedpur West. In Jamshedpur East, BJP's Purnima Sahu Das is up against Ajoy Kumar from Congress. Meera Munda contests against Sanjiv Sardar of JMM in Potka.
