'Jhaadu' continues to be the common man's weapon
Many safai karamcharis of four unions of municipal bodies from across Punjab, held a rally here in protest of the Punjab Government not hearing out their demands. They even said that they were making genuine demands, which fell on deaf ears and threatened that they would support the AAP if their demands were not met.
Workers in Punjab have said they will join AAP if their demands are not met
Organisers at the rally said that they will organize a jhaadu march on January 13, 14 and 15 in different cities of Punjab for their demands. They alleged that political parties were duping municipal employees and specially safai karamcharis.
The municipal workers demanded that the government must do away with the contract system and also said that the government must run its own solid management plants instead of depending on the private companies.
Ever since the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chose the broom as its party symbol, the jhaadu was seen as a symbol of cleaning out corruption from politics and managed to sstrike a chord with the common man.
