JEE-Main Results: Record 56 Score Perfect NTA, Advanced Cut-off at Peak
In a significant announcement by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Wednesday night, a record-breaking 56 candidates, including two females, have achieved a perfect 100 NTA score in the JEE-Main engineering entrance exam. This achievement marks a notable milestone as the qualifying percentile for JEE Advanced—the gateway to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)—reaches a five-year peak.

The distribution of top scorers spans across various categories, with 40 candidates from the general category, 10 from the OBC category, and six from the gen-EWS category. Notably, this year saw no candidates from the SC and ST categories achieving the perfect score. The NTA clarified that an NTA score is distinct from percentage marks, being a normalized score that accounts for the relative performance of all examinees within a session.
Amidst this celebration of academic excellence, it was also revealed that 39 candidates were barred from taking JEE-Main for three years due to unfair practices during the examination. The ranking process considers the best of the two NTA scores obtained in the January and April sessions, adhering to existing policies.
Telangana has emerged as a leader in producing top scorers for the third consecutive year, with 15 candidates hitting the 100 percentile mark. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh followed with seven top scorers each, and Delhi with six. Nearly 96% of the 14.1 lakh registrants appeared for the exam, aiming for undergraduate admissions into engineering and architecture programs at centrally-funded technical institutions and to qualify for JEE Advanced.
The examination was conducted across 571 centres in 319 cities worldwide, including international locations such as Cape Town, Doha, Dubai, and Washington D.C., among others. It was available in 13 languages to accommodate a diverse group of aspirants.
The qualifying percentile for JEE Advanced has seen an upward trend across all categories. For instance, the general category cut-off rose to 93.2 this year from 90.7 in 2023. Similarly, significant increases were observed in cut-offs for other categories as well, indicating a more competitive landscape.
This year's JEE Advanced will see 2,50,284 qualified candidates vying for approximately 17,385 undergraduate seats across IITs. The registration process is set to begin on April 27. With Uttar Pradesh leading in the number of successful candidates followed by Maharashtra and Telangana, this year's competition promises to be as intense as ever.
