The JEE Advance 2018 will be completely online starting next year. The Joint Admission Board (JAB) of the IITs at its meeting in Chennai on Sunday approved a proposal to do away with the option of taking the JEE-Advance in pen-and-paper mode from next year.

The JEE-Advance, until this year, gave candidates the option of taking the test in either pen-and-paper or computer mode. Most students preferred to take the test in conventional mode.
The introduction of a fully computer-based test would not only help in faster and fair evaluation, but also check the possibility of leakage. The meeting also discussed suggestions for bringing changes in the current system of setting questions and format of holding the exam to check the possibility of errors that creeps in the test papers every year, leading the IITs to cut a sorry figure and compensate the candidates with bonus marks.
Various suggestions to improve the system of setting questions and evaluation of the candidates' performance was also discussed.
One of the suggestions discussed at the meeting was to consider evaluating the performance of the candidates not only by looking at the number of correct answers to the test questions, but also how they have approached the question to solve them.
